Supporting chefs the world over
On #InternationalChefsDay we celebrate the great chefs we work with.
Supporting chefs the world over
Here at Robert Welch Designs we’re very proud to be associated with the finest restaurants and hotels in the world and we’re equally delighted to support the chefs who are the very heartbeat of the culinary world. So to mark International Chefs Day we want to highlight just a few of the ways we support chefs internationally.
We’ve partnered with Hilton to support the European Cooking Competition ‘Create Delight’ 2018. 39 chefs from 25 countries across Europe took part, all aiming to be crowned the winner in the final held at the Hilton Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. Of the 10 finalists, challenged to showcase their culinary skills and creativity, a panel of judges had the very difficult decision to choose three deserved winners – therefore a huge congratulations to:
1st place award Peter Lodge - Hilton Cologne
2nd place award Peter Roohe - Hilton Amsterdam Airport Schiphol
3rd place award Dominik Aurbach - Hilton Vienna Danube
There was a VIP panel of Judges with guest judge, the multi Michelin starred chef Sidney Schutte, who remarked how all the dishes were on an exceptionally high level, the preparation and the setting were perfect and it once again showed what great things can be done within Hilton. The top three each received a set of Robert Welch Signature Knives.
Culinary World Cup
On the international stage, we’re delighted to support the England National Culinary Team competing on the Global stage at the Culinary World Cup in Luxembourg in November. Hoping to follow on from their Culinary Olympic Gold medals, the team will once again be wielding Signature Knives in their battle to capture the quadrennial crown.
The team is comprised of:
- Team Manager/Coach: Nick Vadis, Culinary Director, Compass Group UK
- Captain: Simon Webb, Sevens restaurant, Southend, Essex
- Clark Crawley, Gather & Gather
- Rob Kennedy, Culinary Director, Compass Group UK
- Dennis Mwakulua, Executive Chef, Lexington Catering
- Andrew Ditchfield, House of Commons
- Ian Mark, Royal Air Force
- Matt Jones, House of Commons
- Jamie Gibbs, Executive Chef, Compass Group UK
- David Davey Smith, Royal Air Force
South West Chef of the Year
Based in Gloucestershire, we’re very proud of the great culinary heritage of the South West Region and can’t wait to find our who will take the honours at the South West Chef of the Year Awards in Exeter in October. Once again, Signature Knives have been selected as prizes for the Awards and best wishes go to the all the nominees. The event has been recognising the chefs and home cooks of the South West for 15 years now and this year’s Gala Dinner sees three former winners return to create a fabulous, unique menu for the occasion.
A starter from Rob Cox (Tudor Farmhouse Hotel, Clearwell), main by Matt Mason (the Jack in the Green, Rockbeare) and dessert from Mike Tweedie (Adair Manor, Co. Limerick) promises to be a great platform to celebrate the region’s finest. The support in the kitchen and front of house by the students of the Michael Caines Academy should ensure a great event.
Robert Welch Designs is also very proud to be associated with some of the world renowned industry bodies that support, develop and educate the finest talents of tomorrow, too. We continue to work with the Royal Academy of Culinary Arts and the Craft Guild of Chefs and actively support their activities, participate in plenary meetings and more.
We’re continually looking for more ways to support the great professionals who do so much to grow and develop the culinary world, and if you know of any opportunities for us to do more, just let us know; and from everyone here at Robert Welch Designs, happy International Chefs Day.
