The Culinary World Cup may not enjoy the same level of publicity as its many sporting counterparts, but it is run on the same four yearly cycle, produces some truly exquisite new food trends and countries from all over the globe compete. The competition, second only in size to the Culinary Olympics, is held this year in Luxembourg.

Robert Welch Designs is very proud to supply a set of Signature Knives for every chef in the team. They will all be sporting:

  • a pair of cooks’ knives (14cm and 25cm)
  • a pair of Santoku knives (14cm and 17cm)
  • a 10cm vegetable knife
  • and a 16cm flexible filleting/boning knife

The competition will run from the 24th to the 28th November and the England team will be in action on the 25th for their cold menu and again on the 27th for the hot. To add a little “home nations” spice, the team have been drawn in the same pool Wales, along with Germany, USA, Croatia and Poland. In all there are 5 pools – a total of 30 nations competing!

The Culinary World Cup is one of the largest and most important cooking competitions in the world with excellent reputation. Each team will be required to produce their three-course menus in one of the eight kitchens set up for the competition. The team will prepare a 3-course menu for 110 visitors of the EXPOGAST 2018

They will be judged and scored on each of 6 key areas:

Mise en place: 10 points

Correct professional preparation 25 points

  • Hygiene
  • Working skills/techniques
  • a 10cm vegetable knife
  • Kitchen organisation

Service 5 points

Presentation 10 points

Taste 50 points
